Delay your ACL surgery

The January edition of the BMJ details research by Dr. Froben Department of Orthopaedics, Lund University, Sweden on delaying ACL surgery. The article details reports on the follow-up analysis to a randomized controlled trial of either rehabilitation plus early acute anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction against the option of having a later ACL reconstruction.

There was no difference in the outcome of knees surgically reconstructed early or late to those treated with rehabilitation alone and 50% avoided surgery . These results therefore encourage clinicians and young active adult patients to consider rehabilitation as the primary treatment after an acute ACL tear.
The LegTutor is used routinely by physical therapists and physiotherapists to customize rehabilitation exercise practice both before and following knee surgery.
