Research shows that musculoskeletal rehabilitation at home as good as in-patient care

The research was conducted by Dr. Stolee and his team from the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Ottawa.

The authors found that rehabilitation provided at home led to equal or higher gains in function and quality of life when compared to in-patient rehabilitation.

This led the authors to conclude that Home-based rehabilitation may be an effective alternative for treating older patients with musculoskeletal conditions. Finally, implications for practice physical therapy and occupational therapy clinicians is that rehabilitation at home should be considered as an alternative to hospital rehabilitation.
The HandTutor ArmTutor and LegTutor is used in rehabilitation clinics and by home based neurological and orthopedic injury and disease patients. The system is supported by the physical and occupational therapist through telerehabilitation.
