Stroke Rehabilitation Benefits From the Tutors

C. Maya reports in THE HINDU that six months ago, J. B. Mohan, a businessman in the city, was driving and was in the middle of morning peak hour traffic at Vazhuthacaud junction, when he suffered a major stroke.
All that he now remembers is him stopping the car right in the middle of the road because of some uneasiness and blurred vision and the mad mad blaring of horns behind him.
Mr. Mohan is lucky that he is alive and well today to tell the tale because he happens to be one of the few who got rushed to the Stroke Emergency Unit at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) within the crucial time window of three to four-and-a-half hours. He came out of the hospital in a few days, with no debilitating disabilities or brain damage due to stroke because he could be thrombolysed (dissolving the blood clot using medicines intravenously) well in time.
The Tutor system is one of the latest products to be used successfully in stroke rehabilitation.
When stroke,TBI, spinal cord, Parkinson’s disease, CP, MS and other disabling events  occur and recovery is progressing the Tutor system (HandTutor, ArmTutor, LegTutor, 3DTutor) has shown much success in rehabilitation of joint movement. The Tutor system consists of ergonomic wearable devices together with powerful dedicated rehabilitation software. The system is indicated for patients in rehabilitation centers, private clinics and the home where it can be supported by telerehabilitation. It is designed for those who have head, trunk, upper and lower extremity movement dysfunction.
The Tutor system consists of motivating and challenging games that allow the patient to practice isolated and/or interjoint coordination exercises. Controlled exercise practice will help to prevent the development of compensatory movement patterns. The dedicated software allows the therapist to fully customize the exercises to the patient’s movement ability. In addition the therapist can objectively and quantitatively evaluate and report on the treatment progress. The rehabilitation system optimizes the patient’s motor, sensory and cognitive performance and allows the patient to better perform everyday functional tasks to improve their quality of life. The Tutor system is FDA and CE certified. See http://www.HandTutor.com for more information.
