Arm Tutor can Shorten Shoulder Surgery Rehabilitation Time

Thomas Stein, MD, PhD etal of the Department of Sporttraumatology, Knee and Shoulder Surgery, Berufsgenossenschaftliche Unfallklinik Frankfurt am Main, Frankfurt, Germany provided the following research:
Background: Return to shoulder dependent sports activities after surgical stabilization of the shoulder has previously underestimated impairments, which were not reflected in the score systems used.
Hypothesis: That the teturn to shoulder-dependent sports activities depends on the type of sport performed.
Methods: 47 athletes mean age 26.9 who underwent isolated arthroscopic Bankart repair surgery were monitored by the outcome measure – Shoulder Sport Activity Score [SSAS] and the Athletic Shoulder Outcome Scoring System [ASOSS]) in addition to shoulder pain, and functional deficits and surgery-to-sport resumption intervals with a prolonged proficiency recovery.
Sports activities divided up into
1.noncollision/nonoverhead (G1)
2. collision (G2)
3. overhead (G3),
4. Martial arts (G4).
Conclusion: The rehabilitation period following shoulder stabilization was prolonged if the athletic sport was a  shoulder-dependent sport.
