Arms, hands and wrists can be injured in a broad variety of ways for instance, through, sports, office work or an injury. After arm and hand surgery  patients will need a certain period where they can not put a load on the injured arm and hand. During this recovery phase the arm and hand is not in use and strength and muscle mass will be lost. This may be in addition to nerve damage casued by the trauma and surgeryin addition to the damage that was caused prior to the surgery.

In order to strengthen and rehabilitate the injury the patient is seen by an occupational and or physical or physiotherapist. The PT and OT will design the correct exercise practice routine necessary to  help the patient rehabilitate and allow them to return to daily living activities.

Physical therapy is an important health care profession. The primary goal of physical therapy is to help the patient achieve sufficient movement ability and flexibility to do both functional vocational and living tasks. This will improve the quality of life of the patient who is recovering from an injury or surgery.

Because intensive practice is important for recovery,  physical therapists give their patients exercises to perform on their own, in between their sessions in the clinic. The clinic is equipped with machines that facilitate exercise training. These can be passive exercise machines like continuous passive motion or CPM machines. In addition the LegTutor and, 3DTutor, ArmTutor and HandTutor will allow the patient to practice intensive active exercise. The therapist will use objective reporting to follow up the patients progress after trauma, disease or surgery.

In addition to controlled exercise practice the physiotherapist (PT) and Occupational therapist together with the orthopaedic surgeon may also recommend that the patient follows a fitness program at their on-site clinic facility. This will also help to restore or improve the patients cardiovascular capacity, and also add to physiotherapy treatment.

A good physical therapy program for post surgery patients should include the HandTutor, ArmTutor, LegTutor and 3DTutor sytem for maximum physiotherapy benefit. The patient can begin to use the Tutor system in the lying, sitting and then standing position. The Tutor system includes devices that are FDA and CE certified and are being used in leading U.S. and foreign hospitals. They aid in improving movement of the hand, wrist, elbow, knee, ankle, foot and other joints of the body that are impaired following surgery and  traumatic injuries. The devices have been effective for neurological patients including post stroke victims as well as for those suffering from Cerebral Palsy, spinal cord and brain injuries, Apraxia, MS, Parkinsons and other movement disabilities. Intensive active exercise can reduce the rate of deterioration and this is what the ”Tutor” devices provide.

The system is also used in physical therapy clinics as well as the patient’s home with tele rehabilitation. The ”Tutors” are suitable for adults and children.
